Caps Sign Defensemen

Yesterday, the Washington Capitals added two more players: Kevin Marshall and Garrett Stafford. Both have been playing in the AHL and both are defensemen.

Marshall was originally acquired by the Capitals this past February in a trade that sent Matt Ford to Philadelphia. In 63 AHL games last season, the 23 year old recorded six points and 116 penalty minutes.

The Capitals also signed Garrett Stafford. At 32, Stafford has played in 610 AHL games with seven different franchises. He scored nine goals and 28 points in 48 AHL games last season.

Both players are expected to simply add depth to the position. Most likely, they'll stay in the AHL with the Washington Capitals extremely successful Hershey, Pennsylvania franchise.

Other than the signing of right wing Joey Crabb, the Capitals haven't signed anybody that will make a difference on the NHL. They could still be saving their guns so they can go after the coveted New Jersey Devils free agent wing Zach Parise.
