Nationals News and Notes

Yesterday afternoon was a busy afternoon for the Washington Nationals. Before they even took the field, they made three important roster moves you need to know about!

The first, they activated Chien-Ming Wang from the disabled list. List was originally sent to the 15-day DL due to hip pain. Wang has been in and out of the majors this years and has made several trips to the DL. Wang had one start in the majors which ended in disastor. Since then, he has been relegated to the minors and, at times, the Nationals bullpen. For now, Wang will be available in a long relief role out of the bullpen.

The second key move that they made was to recall outfielder Corey Brown from Triple A Syracuse. Brown made a few appearances in the major leagues in. He was a solid outfielder and will be a solid pinch hitter down the stretch.

The third move that they move was to bring John Lannan up from the minor leagues. After pitching is second consecutive shutout for Triple A Syracuse, Lannan was brought up and it was announced that he will be inserted into the rotation for the Braves series on September 14th through the 16th.

Lannan will be the pitcher that replaces Stephen Strasburg when he get's shut down. In two starts so far this season, Lannan is 2-0 with a 3.46 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and seven strikeouts. One of his wins came against the Braves.

The Nationals are slowly preparing for the shutdown of Stephen Strasburg. This is a team with a lot of talent and a deep system. They should be just fine when the shut him down in two weeks.
